Christmas Commercial With Birds Decorating Tree

Countryfile's guest presenter Hannah Jackson has shared her outdoor Christmas tree adorned with edib le decorations for c hickens and native birds to indulge in over the festive season.

Posting on Twitter, the Cumbria-based shepherdess said she wanted to do something a little different this year and opt for wildlife-friendly treats in place of traditional baubles — and we're certain it will keep garden visitors well fed in winter.

'We wanted to make a little difference whilst spreading some Christmas cheer a little earlier than normal, and being environmentally friendly,' she wrote. 'We have decorated our Christmas tree with EDIBLE decorations for all our native wild birds and our chickens on the farm.'

Some decorations on the tree include peanut butter 'baubles' covered in seeds, garlands made of popcorn, corn on the cob, hanging seed baskets, pineapple slices stuffed with seeds, plus dried and fresh fruits. As well as looking wonderful, Hannah says that it has 'already been a massive hit with the chickens and wild birds'.

The farmer also explained the importance of sourcing your tree from a local grower who is part of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association, to ensure 'your tree has been grown sustainably'.

Many followers admired Hannah's unique approach, with one saying, 'I love this so much!! What a beautiful idea. My chickens are separated from the birdies, but I could put the edible decorations in the tree out front and in the chicken run.' Another added: 'What a wonderful idea.'
